Firefighters battle overnight blaze on Loudoun Road

At 3:49 am Thursday, October 8, 2020, firefighters responded to a working fire in two commercial buildings on Loudoun Road just south of Wilkes Avenue.

As emergency crews arrived on the scene heavy smoke and flames could be seen coming from the structures. A defensive attack was launched and eventually transitioned into an offensive attack once conditions improved.

Water tankers had to be used to shuttle water to the scene as the fire was located outside the area of the city serviced by water hydrants.

Crews spent several hours battling the blaze before it was declared under control and hot spots were extinguished. Firefighters protected several nearby buildings including a home.

No injuries were reported. The fire was declared under control at 6:20 am.

Traffic on Wilkes Avenue was shut down while crews fought the fire but has since reopened.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
