Arrest made in fatal collision on Saturday, Sept 26

Winnipeg Police have charged the driver of the vehicle that collided with a van and claimed the life of an adult female.

On Saturday, September 26, 2020, officers with the traffic unit were attempting to pull over a vehicle at Main Street and Boyd Avenue when it sped away at a high rate of speed.

Seconds later the vehicle collided with a second vehicle in the intersection of Andrews Street and Boyd Avenue, about two blocks away.

Four people in the second vehicle and two people in the fleeing vehicle were seriously injured. An adult female in the van died shortly afterwards.

43-year-old Armand Joseph Jr. Chartrand has been charged for his alleged involvement with Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance Causing Death, Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance x 4, Cause Death by Criminal Negligence, Cause Bodily Harm by Criminal Negligence x 4, Drive While Suspended (HTA) and Drive Drive Without Insurance.

He was detained in custody.

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) has taken over the responsibility for the investigation due to police involvement.
