35 new COVID cases Sunday, outbreak restrictions in place at Brandon health centre

Manitoba Public Health announced 35 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, August 30, 2020. The total number of lab-confirmed cases stands at 1,186.

The current five-day COVID-19 test positivity rate is 2.2 per cent.

12 of the new cases are in the Prairie Mountain Health region, five new cases in the Southern Health region, 17 cases in the Winnipeg Health region and one new case in the Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority.

Public health says that eight of the cases announced today are close contacts of previously-announced cases.

On Friday five people were reported being treated for the virus in hospital with one person in intensive care. Public health noted in a media release “Due to data system upgrades this weekend, hospitalization and intensive care unit data are not available today. It is expected this data will be available on Monday.”

There are currently 462 active cases of COVID-19 in the province with 710 people listed as recovered.

The number of deaths related to COVID-19 is 14.

1,542 laboratory tests were completed on Friday. According to Manitoba Public Health, the total number of completed tests since early February is 134,920.

Public health says that three cases previously-identified in the Prairie Mountain Health region are linked to a second-floor unit in the Assiniboine Building at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Close contacts are being identified and contacted says public health.

The second floor of the AssiniboineBuilding has been placed moved to Critical (RED) in the Pandemic Response System risk level. Visitation to the unit is restricted an additional measures have been put in place to reduce the risk to staff and residents.
