Masks mandated at all hospitals & health centres in Manitoba

Effective September 1, 2020, everyone entering a hospital or health centre in Manitoba will be required to wear a non-medical mask said Health, Seniors and Active Living Minister Cameron Friesen.

“As we move towards the fall, additional proactive and preventative measures are needed to ensure the risk of exposure to this virus is minimized for patients and our dedicated front-line clinical staff who care for them,” said Friesen.

As part of the mandate outpatients attending clinics within hospitals and health centres are also included in the mandate. Patients attending primary care clinics or other locations providing health services outside of hospitals and health centres are not required to wear masks at this time.

The minister noted that all Manitobans are strongly encouraged to wear a non-medical mask when seeking medical care.

Masks have been mandated for more than a month when visiting personal care homes across the province. Effective today masks have been mandated in the Prairie Mountain Health region at all indoor public places as well as at all indoor or outdoor gatherings due to the Pandemic Response System risk factor in the region. Currently the risk factor is restricted (ORANGE).

The use of non-medical masks does not apply to children under two or to those with an underlying medical condition that may inhibit their ability to wear a mask.
