Friday sees 40 new cases of COVID-19 in Manitoba

Manitoba Public Health announced 40 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, August 14, 2020, as of 9:30 am. The total number of lab-confirmed and probable cases stands at 643.

According to provincial data on COVID-19 this is the largest number of cases in a single day since the beginning of the pandemic.

The current five-day COVID-19 test positivity rate is 1.25 per cent.

25 of the new cases are in the Prairie Mountain Health region, five new cases in the Southern Health region and 10 cases in the Winnipeg Health region.

The cases identified today include:

Prairie Mountain Health Region

  • Two males under nine
  • One female between 10 and 19
  • three males in their 20s
  • Four females and four Males in their 30s
  • Three males and Three female in their 40s
  • Three male in their 50s
  • One male in his 60s

Southern Health Region

  • One female and one male in their 30s
  • Two females in their 50s
  • One male in his 80s

Winnipeg Health Region

  • One female under nine
  • One male and one female between 10 and 19
  • One female and three males in their 20s
  • One female and one male in their 40s
  • One male in his 60s

Public health says that the majority of Prairie Mountain Health cases continue to be linked to the previously announced cases in Brandon. The cases in Winnipeg are related to travel and close contacts.

There are currently 246 active cases of COVID-19 in the province with 389 people listed as recovered.

Nine people are being treated in the hospital of which three are in intensive care.

The total number of deaths in Manitoba related to COVID-19 remains at eight.

2,288 laboratory tests were completed on Thursday. According to Manitoba Public Health the total number of completed tests since early February to 110,492.

Public health officials advise that there are three instances of potential exposures in Western Manitoba. On August 7 there was a potential exposure at the Sobey’s at 1570 18th Street in Brandon, August 9 there was a potential exposure at Cartwright Town and Country Golf Club, August 10 a potential exposure at the Minnedosa Hospital at 344 First Street.
