According to the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service the fire appears to have started due to the improper disposal of charcoal.

Family members said that they were out to dinner when the fire started. A family dog suffered minor burns and was being treated at a local vet.

Firefighters launched an offensive attack and the fire was brought under control within about 30 minutes.

The fire appeared to be contained to the kitchen and back deck of the home.
