After several hours the suspicious package turned out to be a GeoCache.

If you are not familiar with Geocaching it is a basically a scavenger hunt that uses GPS coordinates to bring players to a general area where they search for the GeoCache. Most often GeoCache items are disguised to look like items that blend into areas they are in.

In light of the incident police are asking those who participate in Geocashing to be mindful of how items appear. They specifically asked people to not disguise items to look unsafe or would cause others to be concerned when discovered.
