Seven people arrested in child sexual abuse case

Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNPS) have arrested seven suspects in connection to a serious child sexual abuse case on Sandy Bay First Nation.

In April 2020, MFNPS officers were told by Sandy Bay Child and Family Services about allegations that two children had been repeated abused by several suspects between 2014 and 2020. The abuse allegedly took place within the community.

Criminal investigators from MFNPS talked to the victims which led to the the arrest of both adult and youth suspects.

Police say that more than 44 Criminal Code charges have been laid against the suspects.

Police are not releasing the names of the accused in order to protect the identity of the victims.

All seven suspects have been released from custody under Court ordered conditions.

The investigation is continuing.
