RCMP officers assaulted by a male prisoner

A 21-year-old male in Chemawawin is facing a number of charges after he allegedly attacked two RCMP officers inside a jail cell at the RCMP detachment on Friday, June 12, 2020.

Around 3:30 am, officers in the community received a call from a guard at the detachment informing them that a male who had been detained under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act was causing a disturbance.

The male was ripping up the cell floor, according to police.

Officers asked the male to sit down near the corner of the cell so they could enter and move him to another cell. When they entered the cell the prisoner grabbed one of the officers.

During a scuffle with police, the male was able to grab a baton from an officer’s duty belt, extend it and hit one of the officers with it several times in the leg while at the same time biting the officer’s arm.

Police were able to place handcuffs on the assailant without injuring him.

The injured officer was treated at the nursing station and released.

Conrad Walker, 21 from Easterville has been charged for his alleged involvement with two counts of Disarming a Police Officer, two counts of resisting arrest, Assault with a Weapon on a Police Officer, Assault on a Police Officer and Mischief over $5,000.
