Hundreds of laid-off city staff returning as pools and other services reopen

Winnipeg announced on Tuesday, June 16, 2020, that about 400 staff members will be returning to their jobs and more programs and services will begin to reopen as early as Wednesday.

Pools

Outdoor pools, including wading pools, could open as early as July 3, 2020, but with reduced capacity in order to ensure social distancing. Lockers will not be available when the pools reopen.

Admission to non-heated pools is free but the city will be charging for the use of heated pools. Pool rentals and privates services will not be permitted at outside pools.

Swimmers will be able to book two-hour swim blocks in advance but will be asked to leave the facilities after the swim block in order for the pool to be cleaned between swim times.

Animal Services

Beginning Wednesday June 17, 2020, Animal Serviceswill be partially reopening to the public for pet licensing and fee collection on weekdays between 8:30 am and 6:00 pm and noon to 5:00 pm on weekends.

Dogs will be available for adoption but an appointment is required in advance by calling 311. The dog kennel area remains closed to the public.

Skywalk

The skywalk portion of the connected walkway system will reopen as of Monday June 22, 2020.

The walkway will be open weekdays between 6:00 am and 6:00 pm, and closed on weekends.
