Manitoba Public Health announced 12 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, April 4, 2020, bringing the total number of confirmed and probable cases to 194.
The number of fatalities in the province due to the virus remains at 2
10 people are being treated in hospital with 6 of those in intensive care.
17 people have been listed as recovered according to public health.
567 tests were performed at Cadham Provincial Laboratory bringing the total number of people tested to 12,514
Testing has been completed on residents of Betel Home in Gimli and none of the residents who were presenting with respiratory illness have COVID-19.
The province announced that of those who have tested positive in the province 14 work in the health-care system. 12 work in Winnipeg Facilities, 1 works at Selkirk hospital and 1 works at Betel Home in Gimli.
The province are in the process of establishing isolation centres for people who may need additional support as they self-isolate. The first centre has been set up in a Winnipeg hotel and will start receiving patients over the weekend. The centre is dedicated for people who have been exposed or have tested positive and require a dedicated space for self-isolation.
Dr. Brent Roussin, Chief Provincial Public Health Officer, reiterated the need for adhering to social distancing. He continues to encourage people to stay home if they do not have an essential need to be out.
“The best way to protect yourself against this virus is to stay home. If you must leave adhere to strict social distancing strategies at all times. Wash your hands at all times, keep that two metre separation,” said Roussin
Roussin reminded Manitobans that social gatherings like holiday family dinners that involve people who do not live in your home is not social distancing and is not recommended.
