Police arrest man in January break-ins and shootings

A 34-year-old male is in custody after he allegedly shot two people and injured a third during two break-ins in January.

Police say around 3:23 am on January 13, 2020, officers were called to a Hastings Boulevard home for the report of a shooting.

When officers arrived they found that a 31-year-old male had been shot during a break-in at the residence. He was taken to hospital in critical condition but later upgraded to stable.

During the same incident a 23-year-old female was assaulted however she did not require medical attention.

Two and a half hours later officers responded to a second shooting at a home on Elgin Avenue.

A 33-year-old male had been shot during a break-in. Three others in the home had a firearm pointed at them during the incident. The shooting victim was transported to hospital in unstable condition but was later upgraded to stable.

Investigators were able to identify a suspect and on January 25, 2020, raided a home on King Edward Street. Officers seized a number of weapons, ammunition and bear spray.

Police were able to catch up with the suspect after officers spotted him driving a stolen vehicle near Elsbury Bay and Sandrington Drive. Members of the Tactical Support Team executed a high-risk traffic stop and took the suspect into custody without incident.

31.2 grams of meth, some cocaine and heroin were found on the suspect along with a stolen drib=vers licence and a stolen cheque.

Police say the vehicle had been stolen on February 2, 2020, from Regent Avenue after it was left running with the keys in the ignition.

Blaine Lindsey Malcolm from Winnipeg is facing 61 charges for his alleged involvement including:

  • Break Enter & Commit Aggravated Assault – Dwelling House (x2)
  • Assault- Disguise with Intent (x2)
  • Discharge a Firearm with Intent (x2)
  • Pointing a Firearm (x3)
  • Use of Firearm During Commission of an Indictable Offence (x2)
  • Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order (x14)
  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized (x5)
  • Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
  • Possession of a Weapon (x5)
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 (x2)
  • Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine
  • Possession of Scheduled Substance – Cocaine
  • Possession of Scheduled Substance – Heroin
  • Operation of a Conveyance While Prohibited by Order Under Criminal Code
  • Store Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regulations (x4)
  • Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order (x13)
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

Malcolm was detained in custody.
