Winnipeg Police are shaking their heads after a bizarre incident sees one male charged with assault, arson and break and enter.
On Tuesday evening, October 15, 2019, officers responded to a domestic situation. As they were talking to a female and her three kids a male burst through the rear door of the home and punched one of the officers.
The suspect then took off to a neighbours yard and broke the window of a vehicle parked there.
The female that officers had been talking to put her kids in her vehicle which prompted the male suspect to approach and begin banging on the windows causing them to shatter.
Police shot the man with a taser but it had no affect.
The woman and a male relative went back into the house and barricaded the door. The suspect forced his way through the barricade causing the door to hit the male and female inside.
Police were able to rescue the female and her male relative and get them outside while the suspect threatened the officer.
The suspect then barricaded the door and began smashing items inside the residence. He then started a fire that quickly spread to the second floor. Three adults and a child had to jump into the arms of officers below in order to make it to safety.
The suspect was eventually taken into custody.
Police have charged a 26-year-old male for his alleged involvement with:
- Arson with Disregard for Human Life X4
- Arson Causing Damage to Property
- Break Enter & Commit Assault – Dwelling House X3
- Mischief Under $5000/Obstruct in Enjoyment X2
- Assault Peace Officer
- Resist Peace Officer
- Mischief Over $5000
He was detained in custody.
