Attempted murder charges laid after man pulls trigger on handgun during robbery

Winnipeg Police have arrested and charged a 21-year-old male after he allegedly pointed a handgun at the head of a store employee during a robbery and pulled the trigger several times.

Police say that on July 30, 2019, the suspect entered a convenience store in the 1100 block of Kildare Avenue East and robbed it. During the robbery he allegedly pulled out a handgun, pointed it at the head of an employee and pulled the trigger several times. The gun did not fire. The robber then re-inserted the magazine into the weapon pointed at the employee and again pulled the trigger. The weapon again did not fire.

The suspect then left the store with several stolen items. The armed suspect then pointed the gun at two other people who were outside the store as he fled.

Early Saturday morning, August 3, 2019, members of the Tactical Support Team along with members of the Major Crimes Unit arrested the suspect at a residence in the 400 block of Prichard Avenue and after clearing the home.

Tyrell Jeferd Wood, from Winnipeg has been charged for his alleged involvement with:

  • Attempt to Commit Murder
  • Armed Robbery using a Firearm
  • Pointing a Firearm (x3)
  • Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

Wood was detained in custody
