RCMP officer under investigation for speeding without reason while on-duty

Manitoba’s police watchdog, The Independent Investigation Unit (IIU), is looking into allegations that an RCMP officer was seen speeding while on-duty near Virden.

Virden is about 288 kilometres west of Winnipeg.

RCMP notified the IIU on June 4, 2019, of two incidents of an on-duty officer who was operating a police vehicle at excessive speed and without lawful justification to do so.

Zane Tessler, the civilian director of the IIU, has determined that an investigation will be undertaken because it is in the public interest to do so.

No other information surrounding the incidents have been released.
