Fatal fire on Boyd Avenue takes one life

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) is investigating the cause of an early morning blaze in the 400 block of Boyd Avenue.

Just before 7:00 am on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 firefighters were called to the northend for a fire in a single family bungalow. As they arrived they encountered heavy flames and smoke.

Once inside the structure on person was found dead and another in critical condition. Crews also found two cats who had also died during the fire.

It isn’t known if the home had working fire alarms.

WFPS crews were able to get the fire under control just before 8:00 am.

No damage estimates are available but the city says the home suffered significant fire, smoke and water damage.
