Open liquor violation leads cops to $10K in Meth

A 32-year-old male is behind bars after police found just under $10,000 worth of Methamphetamines in his possession.

Around 1:45 am this morning, officers noticed a male getting out of a cab holding a can of liquor at the corner of Main Street and Bannerman Avenue. Once the man noticed police he got back in the taxi.

The cab was stopped and police found that the male was wanted for parole violations. He was arrested.

A search of the suspect found 11 grams of meth and $90 in cash but much more was found in his duffle bag. According to officers they found 87 more grams of methamphetamine in the bag.

The combined street value of the drugs was $9,900

Matthew Frederick Sheppard, from Winnipeg, has been charged for his alleged involvement with:
– Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine
– Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000
– Consume or Possess Open Liquor in a Public Place (Liquor and Gaming Control Act)

He was also processed on a Canada-wide parole revocation warrant.

He was detained in custody.
