Bystanders and employees thwart armed robber

Things didn’t go as planned for a 31-year-old armed robber as he tried to rob a convenience store in the 500 block of William Avenue in the early morning hours of Wednesday, June 27, 2018.

The robber entered the store just before 2:30 am with his face covered armed with a knife he waved towards employees. He began stealing items in the store but was stopped by several customers and employees.

Police say an altercation occurred and the robber tried to leave but he had been locked inside the store. At this point, he began kicking at a glass door and was eventually able to break through. He then climbed through the opening and was cut by the glass suffering a number of lacerations.

The robber was able to get a couple of blocks away before police caught up with him and placed him under arrest. He was taken to hospital and treated but told police he had sustained the injuries during a stabbing.

Craig Armand Norman Ducharme from Winnipeg is facing charges for his alleged involvement of Robbery, Mischief under $5,000/Obstruct in Enjoyment, Possession of a Weapon, Disguise with Intent

Ducharme was detained in custody.
