ARRESTS | YOUTHS ON CRIME SPREE BUSTED

Winnipeg Police put a stop to a crime spree that had been plaguing the south end of the city for the last week.

Two adult males and six youths (3 males, 3 females) between the ages of 14 and 16 years old were busted on Wednesday September 20,2016.

The group had been on breaking into vehicles, garages and homes at the south end of Pembina Highway between Bishop Grandin and Killarney Avenue since September 15.

Five of the six youth were also involved in two separate armed robberies. A 20 year old victim of one of the armed robberies sustained upper-body injuries that were non-life-threatening. The other armed robbery victim, an 18 year old male was uninjured.

The two armed robbery victims contacted police. Air-1, a canine unit, and general patrol officers quickly responded to the area. Air-1 and the canine unit were able to locate 6 of the suspects near Aspen Forest Point and Bridgeland Drive North. A short time later a report of break and enter, in progress, in the same vicinity was received. Aided by Air-1, two remaining suspects were located and arrested. Air-1 was also able to locate some of the stolen property which was identified by its heat signature.

In total, 75 separate charges were laid by investigators of the West District Crime Unit. The charges include: Robbery, Break and Enter, Possess Weapon, Fail to Comply with Recognizance and Assault with a Weapon. All of the accused were detained in custody.
