ASSAULT SENDS FOUR TO HOSPITAL, LOCKS DOWN HIGH SCHOOL

 

 

Man suffers upper body injury is helped by school staff

 

 

 

 

Winnipeg Police responded to St. John’s High School in the 400 block of Church Street over the lunch hour on Thursday May 4, 2017. They had received a report of an assault that had happened near the education facility.

Police say that a man suffered an injury to his upper body while in a park adjacent to the school. He was helped by staff from the school and was transported to hospital. He is now in stable condition.

Three youths were also taken to hospital after it was learned that pepper spray was discharged during the incident. The youths were given medical care as a precaution do to contamination from the pepper spray.

The school was placed in lock down for about 20 minutes until police had sorted out what had occurred.  The school was then placed in a hold and secure status that permitted movement within the school but no one was able to enter or leave the facility. By about 2:00 pm school officials had returned the school to a normal status.

Winnipeg police are continuing to investigate the incident. Investigators are asking anyone with information to call them at 204-986-6219.
