On the evening of September 4, 2024, at approximately 9:10 pm, the Stonewall / Headingley RCMP responded to a distress call reporting an assault and disturbance at a residence in the RM of Macdonald. According to initial reports, a 23-year-old male had assaulted a female inside the home and attempted to set multiple vehicles on fire.
Upon arrival, officers were confronted by the 23-year-old male, who was armed with an edged weapon. The situation escalated, resulting in an officer discharging their firearm. The suspect sustained a gunshot injury, was taken into custody, and received immediate medical attention from the officers on the scene.
The injured male was transported to the hospital by ambulance and is currently in stable condition. He has since been released into police custody, where he remains. No other injuries were reported during the incident.
The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba has taken over the investigation.
