Early Monday morning, July 29, 2024, the Winnipeg Police Service responded to an incident in the 100 block of McKenzie Street. At approximately 6:46 a.m., a male suspect allegedly pointed a firearm at four individuals and threatened to kill them. The suspect fled the scene, prompting the victims to contact the police.
Upon investigation, officers discovered that the altercation began when one of the victims threw a rock through a window, leading the suspect to exit the residence with a firearm. It was determined that the suspect and the victims may have known each other prior to the incident.
The Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation, with support from the Tactical Support Team (TST) and General Patrol officers from the North District. A search warrant was executed on the suspect’s residence, resulting in the seizure of an improvised firearm and a shotgun shell.
Later that day, at 5:50 p.m., the suspect was apprehended at the same location without incident.
The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Mark Brady Monias of Winnipeg, faces multiple charges for his alleged involvement, including:
- Four counts of pointing a firearm
- Carrying a concealed weapon prohibited device or ammunition
- Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
- Three counts of possession of a firearm, restricted/prohibited weapon, or ammunition contrary to prohibition order
- Storing a firearm or restricted weapon contrary to regulations
- Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm
- Four counts of failing to comply with a condition of release order
- Warrant for failing to comply with a probation order
Monias remains in police custody as the investigation continues.
