Youth Crime Spree in Winnipeg: Break-In and Arson Incidents

In the early hours of July 25, 2024, the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a series of alarming incidents involving a group of youths. At approximately 1:00 a.m., police were called to a commercial break-in at a retail store in the 1000 block of Ellice Avenue. The suspects, a group of young males, had smashed the front window to gain access, causing significant damage inside the store and stealing merchandise before fleeing the scene.

Just 30 minutes later, another report came in regarding a fire set inside a gazebo at the rear of a property in the 1000 block of Sargent Avenue. The quick response from General Patrol Officers from the West District, along with the K9 Unit, led to the apprehension of the youths in the 500 block of Spence Street.

Five male youths, aged 12,13, and two 14-year-olds have been taken into custody and are facing charges related to Commercial Break & Enter and Arson. They were subsequently released on an Undertaking per the Criminal Code and turned over to an adult.

A 9-year-old male was referred to the Manitoba Turnabout Program.
