Winnipeg Man Charged in Connection with Aggravated Assault and Drug Possession

On the evening of June 23, 2024, Winnipeg Police Service responded to an assault report on the 100 block of Ritchie Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found a 29-year-old male victim with serious injuries. The victim received immediate medical attention from the officers and was later transported to a local hospital in critical condition. His condition has since been upgraded to stable.

The Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation, which revealed that the victim and a friend had been arguing over drugs and money. The suspect, identified as Erico Pasquale Capobianco, 20, of Winnipeg, allegedly produced a knife and stabbed the victim multiple times, causing serious injuries.

Two days later, on June 25, Capobianco was located as a passenger in a vehicle near McPhillips Street and Logan Avenue. He was arrested in connection with the aggravated assault. Upon his arrest, police found Capobianco in possession of over 40 grams of methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of $1,800, and over 15 grams of cocaine, estimated at $1,400.

Capobianco has been charged with Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Weapon, and two counts of Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking. He was also charged with failing to comply with a condition of a release order, specifically, not to own, possess, or carry any weapon. He remains in custody.
