A tragic boating incident has left one man dead and two others missing near Little Moose Lake, Grand Rapids. The Grand Rapids RCMP responded to a report of missing boaters at approximately 7:00 am on June 28, 2024.

The three men, aged 28, 29, and 31, all from Misipawistik Cree Nation, had embarked on a moose hunting trip to the north basin of Lake Winnipeg. They were expected to return to their community but failed to show up at their designated meeting place and have not been in contact with anyone since.

In response to the incident, several Search and Rescue groups were deployed to the area, including the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team. The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre also assisted by conducting an aerial search of the area. A number of personal items belonging to the missing boaters were discovered along the shoreline, indicating a possible accident.

On June 29, 2024, the body of the 31-year-old male was tragically located in the water by Easterville Search and Rescue. The identities of the men have not been released at this time.

The search for the remaining two men continues, with local fishermen and Search and Rescue teams from Easterville and The Pas assisting the Grand Rapids RCMP. The community is holding out hope for their safe return.

Further updates will be provided as the search progresses. The RCMP urges anyone with information related to this incident to come forward.
