No Charges Filed Against Bus Driver in Fatal Trans-Canada Highway Collision

The Manitoba Prosecution Services (MPS) announced yesterday that no charges will be filed against the driver of a passenger bus involved in a fatal collision with a semi-truck on the Trans-Canada Highway near Carberry on June 15, 2023.

The tragic accident claimed the lives of seventeen people and left the bus driver with a traumatic brain injury. The collision occurred at the intersection of the Trans-Canada Highway and Provincial Trunk Highway 5. According to reports, the bus driver had stopped at a posted stop sign before crossing the westbound lanes. He then proceeded through the median and crossed the eastbound lanes, unfortunately entering the path of an oncoming semi-truck.

The decision not to press charges comes after an extensive police investigation. MPS stated that the available evidence did not meet its charge assessment standard. The announcement concludes a year-long investigation into the incident, providing some closure to this tragic chapter.
