97 tested but so far still no cases of Covid-19 in Manitoba

Manitoba officials say that as of today, March 5, 2020, they have tested 97 people for the Covid-19 virus and all have tested negative for the virus.

Although there are no laboratory confirmed cases in the province officials say that preparing for that eventuality.

Currently the risk of acquiring the coronavirus in Manitoba remains low.

The province’s chief public health officer Dr. Brent Roussin said his office is working closely with the Public Health Agency of Canada and the World Health Organization.

Roussin says that people should exercise prevention by frequent hand-washing using soap and warm water or an alcohol-based hand cleaner.

Officials are not recommending the public wear masks because there is no benefit in doing so if you do not have symptoms.

Travellers returning from Iran and the Province of Hubei or if you have had contact with a person with a confirmed or probable case of Covid-19 or laboratory workers exposed during work are advised to self-isolate for 14 days.

Travellers who develop cold of flu-like symptoms within 14 days of returning to Canada should contact Health Links say officials.

Currently world wide there are 97,894 case of Covid-19, 37 of which are in Canada (British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec and Alberta). Today Alberta announced its first presumptive case of the virus.
