RCMP respond to out-of-control party goers in East St. Paul

Red River North RCMP had to call in help from other detachments and the Winnipeg Police Service when a Saturday night party got out of control in East St. Paul.

Police were called around 10:00 pm on October 29, 2022, with reports about a large party at a home on Saddleridge Lane.

As officers arrived they were swarmed by about 70 intoxicated youth.

The youth appeared out of control in a video that appeared on social media.

Police say they multiple suspects jumped on two RCMP vehicles, kicking in the windshield on one and causing major damage to the roof of another.

“Some of the youth at this party were in vulnerable states and clearly in danger, yet many in attendance were preventing our officers from doing their jobs. We are very concerned that there may be more victims of crime that night,” said S/Sgt Kyle McFadyen of the Selkirk RCMP. “We are asking anyone who may be a victim or who may have been a witness to a crime to contact us immediately.”

A number of the party goers were making racist comments toward visible minority officers. Officers also reported being spit on and having fireworks fired at them. Police believe that there was excessive drug use along with severe intoxication among many of the party guests.

Officers stopped a sexual assault of an intoxicated female youth after they witnessed two male drag her into a nearby bush. As the officers intervened the two males fled. Thefemale victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

“What occurred on Saturday and what our officers faced is unacceptable. The level of violence and the racist language directed at responding police officers is beyond disturbing. Be assured that we are reviewing video and audio captured by our police vehicles as well as the videos posted to social media. We will hold people accountable for their actions,” said Superintendent John Duff, East District Commander, Manitoba RCMP.

RCMP say that none of the officers that responded to the incident were injured.

Damage to the home, property and police vehicles was significant.
