A fatal fire on Queens Bay in Thompson on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, is under investigation.
Around 8:40 pm RCMP officers were dealing with an incident in the 100 block when they hear noise coming from a home further down the street and saw a significant amount of smoke coming from a residence.
The home was fully engulfed in flames as emergency services arrived on the scene. A 41-year-old female who had escaped the inferno told officers that a 62-year-old man who had been in the basement with her and her 13-year-old daughter had also escaped the flames. The daughter had climbed out a second-storey window and jumped to the ground. Four other children on the second floor had not escaped.
Once the fire was brought under control firefighters located the children: a 10-year-old female, a 9-year-old male, a 7-year-old male and a 4-year-old male. All four were taken to hospital but died from their injuries shortly afterwards. Both adults and the 13-year-old who had escaped the fire were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
RCMP and the Office of The Fire Commissioner are investigating the cause of the fire.
