Eight percent of Winnipeg Police Service staff, including sworn officers and civilian members have not been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
The WPS released the numbers on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, and say that as an essential emergency service provider all members are required to be fully vaccinated by November 15, 2021. Staff were asked to declare their vaccination status by last Friday.
Police say that they are hopeful that more members will decide to get vaccinated.
“The WPS will work with the City, unions, and the membership to create a safe workplace for those employed here, and the public we serve,” police said in a statement to media.
Members not fully vaccinated by November 15, will subject to workplace requirements and/or restriction but the service has yet to release details of what that might entail.
