A 57-year-old female from Winnipeg is facing a charge of Public Mischief after she allegedly called 911 Thursday evening, May 30, 2019 then hung up.

Several attempts were made to call the person back and a computer check showed that there had been a number of calls for help from the address associated with the phone. In all cases the the need for help was unfounded.

Officers also learned that so far in 2019 8 separate calls had been made to 911. In 2018 20 calls had been made to the emergency call centre. In each case the call was unfounded according to police.

Police are reminding the public that the 911 system is for emergencies only. The public is encouraged to call when there is a crime in progress, people or property are at risk or for medical emergencies.
