898 news cases of COVID-19, province extends restrictions for one week

Manitoba has reported 898 new cases of COVID-19 today along with nine additional deaths. The total number of deaths due to the virus is 1,543.

Hospitalizations are currently 715 people being treated for COVID-19 including 52 receiving treatment in ICU.

The provincial test positivity rate is at 32.1 per cent.

There are currently 29,720 active cases in Manitoba

1,722 lab tests were taken yesterday. That brings the total number of COVID-19 tests completed in the province since February 2020 to 1,374,871.

Outbreaks have been declared at:

  • Deer Lodge Centre, Lodge 2 west, Winnipeg; and
  • Riverview Health Centre, unit 3 East, Winnipeg; 

Manitoba announced that they will be extending the current public health orders for one week. Originally the orders were set to expire on February 1, but will now expire on February 8.

According to provincial data severe outcomes from the omicron varient may have peaked in Manitoba. Hospital admissions are still high but appear to have stabilized or are slowly declining.

“While we are seeing some key indicators signal a peak, we need to remain cautious in our approach to the virus,” said Dr. Brent Roussin, Manitoba’s chief provincial public health officer. “COVID-19 continues to add stress to our health care system and we need all Manitobans to get vaccinated, stay home when you are sick, get tested and self-isolate according to public health orders.”
