Winnipeg Police have a 27-year-old male in custody in connection to a serious sexual assault on on September 6, 2020.
According to police an adult female was walking near Sargent Avenue and Toronto Street when a male she did not know began a conversation with her. During the conversation he forced the woman into a house nearby and attempted to sexually assault her.
The victim was able to get away but the suspect soon caught up to her, pulled her into a breezeway next to a business and seriously sexually assaulted her.
The suspect took off after another person arrived in the area.
The victim was treated in hospital then released.
Police were able to identify the suspect from surveillance video at a local business.
Michael Curtis Thomas was arrested on September 16. He is facing charges for his alleged involvement of Aggravated Sexual Assault and Overcome Resistance by Attempting to Choke, Suffocate or Strangle Another Person.
