8 deaths, 475 new COVID-19 cases, new restrictions announced

Manitoba Public Health announced there were 475 new cases of the virus today. The total number of lab-confirmed cases stands at 12,482.

Officials report eight additional deaths today which include:

  • a male in his 60s from the Winnipeg health region and linked to the outbreak at the Keekinan Centre;
  • a male in his 70s, a female in her 80s and a female in her 90s from the Winnipeg health region and linked to the outbreak at Maples Long Term Care Home;
  • a male in his 70s and a male in his 80s from the Southern Health–Santé Sud health region and linked to the outbreak at Rest Haven Nursing Home;
  • a male in his 90s and a female in her 90s from the Prairie Mountain Health region and linked to the outbreak at the Gilbert Plains personal care home.

The five-day test positivity rate in Manitoba is 14 per cent. In Winnipeg, the test positivity rate is 13.7.

Of the cases reported today there are 12 cases in the Interlake-Eastern Health Region, 55 cases in the Northern Health Region, 13 cases in the Prairie Mountain Health Region, 124 cases in the Southern Health Region and 271 cases in the Winnipeg Health Region.

There are 263 people being treated in hospital with 43 in intensive care.

The number of deaths related to COVID-19 is 198.

There are currently 7,629 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, of those 5,502 are in Winnipeg. There are 4,655 people are listed as recovered.

3,269 laboratory tests were completed yesterday. According to Manitoba Public Health, the total number of completed tests since early February is 321,853.

New Public Health Orders

New public health orders were announced that come into effect on Friday, November 20, 2020, including:

  • No one is allowed to gather in a private residence including a home, cottage or other vacation property, except the people who live there with some exceptions to allow child-care, health-care and home care services, tutoring services, construction or repairs, or to respond to emergencies.
  • no gathering in an indoor or outdoor private place with more than five people with the exception of a health-care facility or critical business that adheres to health protection measures.
  • Retail businesses can only sell essential items in person and must comply with capacity limits (25% ususal capacity or 250 – which ever is lower) Online sale of essential and non-essential items can continue for delivery or curb-side pickup

Outbreaks

Outbreaks have been declared at Winnipeg’s Health Science Centre GA3 unit, the Buhler Active Living Centre in Winkler, the Oakwood Place in Blumenort and St. Paul’s Personal Care Home in Dauphin. All sites have moved to Critical on the Pandemic Response System.

Flight Information

The chief provincial public health officer urges Manitobans to only leave their homes for essential purposes. When leaving the house to obtain essentials, be sure to physically distance, wear a mask in indoor public places and avoid crowded spaces. Do not leave the home if you are sick, or when any member of your family is sick. Further, do not socialize with anyone from outside your household.

Officials advise that only people showing symptoms of COVID-19 should go for testing. If you do have symptoms you should seek testing as soon as possible once symptoms appear.
