64 new cases of COVID-19 and one death reported Friday

64 new cases of COVID-19 identified in the province today. One additional death was reported due to the virus.

The person who died from COVID-19 is identified as:

  • a male in his 70s from the Southern Health–Santé Sud health region.

The five-day test positivity rate is currently 3.9 per cent provincially and 3.3 per cent in Winnipeg.

The total number of lab-confirmed cases in Manitoba is 31,721.

Today’s cases are from the following health regions:

  • three cases in the Interlake-Eastern health region;
  • 33 cases in the Northern health region;
  • zero case in the Prairie Mountain Health region;
  • two cases in the Southern Health–Santé Sud health region; and
  • 26 cases in the Winnipeg health region.

There are currently 1,197 active cases of COVID-19 in Manitoba with 29,635 people listed as recovered.

191 people are being treated in the hospital of which 67 are considered infectious. 28 people with the virus are in Intensive Care Units with 10 of them still considered infectious.

The total number of cases related to variants of concern is five.

889 Manitobans have died since COVID-19 first arrived in the province.

1,927 tests were completed yesterday. Since the virus first arrived in February 2020, there have been 521,826 tests completed.

An outbreak has been declared at Actionmarguerite St. Joseph in Winnipeg. 

Earlier today the federal government authorized the use of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine. This vaccine can be stored in a regular fridge as it does not require such low temperatures as Pfizer or Moderna.

The province has not been told how much of the new vaccine will be shipped to Manitoba or when it will arrive.
