62 new cases of COVID-19 and five more variants of concern identified

62 new cases of COVID-19 were identified in the province today. Two deaths were reported due to the virus:

  • a female in her 80s from the Winnipeg health region, linked to the outbreak at Grace Hospital unit 3 South; and
  • a female in her 90s from the Winnipeg health region.

The five-day test positivity rate is currently 5.3 per cent provincially and 4.3 per cent in Winnipeg.

The total number of lab-confirmed cases in Manitoba is 34,549.

Today’s cases are from the following health regions:

  • one case in the Interlake-Eastern health region;
  • 23 cases in the Northern health region;
  • four cases in the Prairie Mountain Health region;
  • one case in the Southern Health–Santé Sud health region; and
  • 33 cases in the Winnipeg health region.

There are currently 1,255 active cases of COVID-19 in Manitoba with 32,352 people listed as recovered.

140 people are being treated in the hospital of which 66 are considered infectious. 30 people with the virus are in Intensive Care Units with 14 of them still considered infectious.

There are five additional B.1.1.7 variants of concern cases identified since Friday April 2 all from the City of Winnipeg

The total number of confirmed variant of concern cases of B.1.1.7 is 240 and B.1.351 is 20. 15 variants of concern cases have not been categorized bringing the total number of confirmed variant of concern cases to 275.

942 Manitobans have died since COVID-19 first arrived in the province.

1,386 tests were completed yesterday. Since the virus first arrived in February 2020, there have been 592,384 tests completed.

An outbreak has been declared at St. Boniface Hospital unit B5.
