6 new cases at John Prichard School, 23 new cases in total

Manitoba Public Health announced there were 23 new cases of the virus on Wednesday, September 16, 2020. The total number of lab-confirmed cases stands at 1,489.

The five-day test positivity rate in Manitoba is 1.5 per cent

Two cases in the Interlake-Eastern Health region, one case in Northern Health region and 13 cases in the Winnipeg Health region.

There are nine people being treated in hospital including three people in intensive care.

There are currently 283 active cases of COVID-19 in the province 1,190 people listed as recovered.

The number of deaths related to COVID-19 is 16.

1,266 laboratory tests were completed on Tuesday. According to Manitoba Public Health, the total number of completed tests since early February is 158,706.

Six additional cases of COVID-19 have been identified at John Prichard School bringing the total number of cases connected to the facility to seven. Effective immediately grades 4/5 split, grade 6, grade 7, grade 8 as well as Henderson Early Learning Centre before and after school programs have been moved to remote learning from home.

Close contacts connected to the outbreak at the school have been identified and have been advised to self-isolate. Others at the school do not have to self-isolate but have been asked to self-monitor.

John Prichard School has moved to Restricted (ORANGE) on the Pandemic Response System risk level due to the number of cases and contacts involved.

Public health says that there are a number of possible exposures related to a previously announced case on September 5 and 6 at the following locations:

September 5

  • Tavern United, 1405 St. Matthew Ave. – 4:30 pm to 5:15 pm
  • U Putz, 423 McPhillips St. – 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm
  • McPhillips Street Station, 484 McPhillips St.- 10:00 pm to 11:00 pm
  • Hampton Inn by Hilton Winnipeg, Airport/Polo Park, 730 Berry St. – overnight

September 6

CF Polo Park, 1485 Portage Avenue – 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm

Possible exposure at Parkview Place Long Term Care Home located at 440 Edmonton St. in Winnipeg on Sept. 11 and 12 involving a health-care worker at the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority care home. 

The facility’s initiated outbreak protocols and has been moved to Critical (RED) on the Pandemic Response System.

Public Health advises to stay home if you are sick, wash/sanitize your hands, cover your cough and physically distance when you are with people outside your household. If you cannot physically distance, wear a mask.
