59 new cases of COVID-19 and two additional deaths reported

59 new cases of COVID-19 identified in the province today. Two deaths were reported today due to the virus.

The five-day test positivity rate is currently 3.9 per cent provincially and 3.6 per cent in Winnipeg.

The total number of lab-confirmed cases in Manitoba is 34,174.

Today’s cases are from the following health regions:

  • one case in the Interlake-Eastern health region;
  • 16 cases in the Northern health region;
  • seven cases in the Prairie Mountain Health region;
  • threecases in the Southern Health–Santé Sud health region; and
  • 32 cases in the Winnipeg health region.

There are currently 1,179 active cases of COVID-19 in Manitoba with 32,058 people listed as recovered.

148 people are being treated in the hospital of which 65 are considered infectious. 30 people with the virus are in Intensive Care Units with 12 of them still considered infectious.

Public health officials say that there are 3 new screened and sequenced variants of concern cases today. All of the cases reported today are from the Winnipeg health region.

The total number of confirmed variant of concern cases of B.1.1.7 is 235 and B.1.351 is 20. 15 variants of concern cases have not been categorized bringing the total number of confirmed variant of concern cases to 270.

937 Manitobans have died since COVID-19 first arrived in the province.

1,561 tests were completed yesterday. Since the virus first arrived in February 2020, there have been 584,267 tests completed.
