40 additional cases of COVID-19 identified in Manitoba bringing the toal number of confirmed and probable cases to 167.
There still has only been one fatality due to the virus.
Five people are currently in hospital with four of those being treated in Intensive Care.
11 people have recovered.
To date 11,327 people in Manitoba have been tested for COVID-19 with 1,300 tests processed on Wednesday.
Currently the Cadham Provincial Laboratory no longer has a backlog in processing tests. Results will be available within 24-48 hours from when a test arrives at the lab according to officials.
Chief Provincial Public Health Officer Dr. Brent Roussin says that three additional staff have been identified as COVID-19 positive at two health-care facilities, Health Sciences Centre and Betel Home in Gimli.
Roussin said that due to a positive COVID-19 case at Betel Home public health is investigating an outbreak of respiratory illness in the facility. Nine residents are showing symptoms and are being tested to determine the cause of the illness. Patients who are ill have been isolated and Betel Home has implemented additional infection prevention and control measures.
Health-care workers across the province in hospitals, long-term care facilities, health centres, nursing stations, Access Centres and COVID-19 testing centres will be expanding their use of masks and other personal protective equipment (PPE).
Public Health is advising people to not travel to their cottages or seasonal homes. Non-essential travel should be limited including within the province. Services at smaller health centres could be strained if seasonal visitors become ill.
