40 more cases in Winnipeg, 54 identified province-wide

Manitoba Public Health announced there were 54 new cases of the virus on Sunday, October 11, 2020. The total number of lab-confirmed cases stands at 2,578.

The five-day test positivity rate in Manitoba is 3.1 per cent

Five cases in the Interlake-Eastern Health region, seven cases in the Southern Health region, two cases in the Prairie Mountain Health region, and 40 cases in the Winnipeg Health region.

24 people are currently in hospital with four people being treated in intensive care according to public health.

The number of deaths related to COVID-19 is 32.

There are currently 1,063 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, with 875 of those in Winnipeg, 1,483 people are listed as recovered.

2,969 laboratory tests were completed yesterday. According to Manitoba Public Health, the total number of completed tests since early February is 208,703.

Public health officials advised that three possible exposures were identified in the following schools:

  • Bird’s Hill School at 3950 Raleigh St. in East St Paul on Sept. 30, and Oct. 1 and 2. Based on the public health investigation, the risk of this exposure was assessed to be low. The infection was not believed to be acquired at school. Those identified as close contacts will be contacted by public health and provided instructions for self-isolation (quarantine).
  • École Heritage Immersion at 433 Rue Sabourin in St-Pierre-Jolys on Sept. 29 and 30. Based on the public health investigation, the infection is not believed to be acquired at school. Those identified as close contacts will be contacted by public health and provided instructions for self-isolation (quarantine).
  • North Memorial School at 410 Sixth Avenue N.E. in Portage la Prairie on Sept. 28, 29 and 30 and Oct. 1, 2 and 5. Based on the public health investigation, the infection is not believed to be acquired at school. Those identified as close contacts will be contacted by public health and provided instructions for self-isolation (quarantine).

There is also a possible exposure at Fit For Less (gym) at 1399 McPhillips St. in Winnipeg on Oct. 2 from 4 to 5:15 p.m. and Oct. 3 from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. 

Winnipeg Police Headquarters (News 4)

Winnipeg Police Service reported that one of their members tested positive for COVID-19. The officer worked in the Service Centre at the police headquarters building at 245 Smith Street where members of the public report crimes in person as well as obtain criminal record checks or non-criminal fingerprinting. The officer last worked in the Service Centre on Friday, October 2, Saturday, October 3 and Monday, October 5 in the morning.

Public health is continuing to advise Winnipeg residents and visitors to the city to stay home if sick, wash your hands, cover your cough and physically distance when you are with people outside your household. If you cannot physically distance, you should wear a mask to help reduce your risk. Reduce the number of close contacts outside your household, and avoid closed-in or crowded spaces. 

Officials advise that only people showing symptoms of COVID-19 should go for testing. If you do have symptoms you should seek testing as soon as possible once symptoms appear.
