Winnipeg Police has arrested and charged a 32-year-old St. Boniface man for his alleged involvement in distributing child sexual abuse images.
On August 28, 2017, Winnipeg’s Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE) was notified by the National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre that they were involved in an investigation that involved a Winnipeg suspect.
The ICE unit investigated and learned that in June of 2017 the suspect had created an account on a Russian based image hosting site. The suspect uploaded sexually suggestive images of a female child. In July more pictures of the same child were uploaded.
Investigators say that in late August the suspect made sexual comments about young children online.
ICE was able to identify the suspect and at around 2:45 pm on August 28, 2017, officers executed a search warrant and seized a number of electronic devices from a St. Boniface home.
Police located the suspect at a business in north St. Boniface approximately 45 minutes later and placed him under arrest.
The man has been charged with possession of child pornography and distribute, make available child pornography.
He was detained in custody.
