28 new cases of COVID-19 Monday, travel restrictions to north re-implemented

Manitoba Public Health announced 28 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, August 31, 2020. The total number of lab-confirmed cases stands at 1,214.

The current five-day COVID-19 test positivity rate is 2.1 per cent.

13 of the new cases are in the Prairie Mountain Health region, six new cases in the Southern Health region, seven cases in the Winnipeg Health region and two new cases in the Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority.

Public health says that 14 of the cases announced today are close contacts of previously-announced cases and one is related to travel.

There are 11 people in hospital and one person in intensive care.

There are currently 469 active cases of COVID-19 in the province with 731 people listed as recovered.

The number of deaths related to COVID-19 is 14.

1,992 laboratory tests were completed on Saturday, 1,708 were completed on Sunday. According to Manitoba Public Health, the total number of completed tests since early February is 137,499.

Fairview Personal Care Home in Brandon is now listed as Critical (RED) under the Pandemic Response System risk level after a previously identified case in Prairie Mountain Health region is a health-care worker from the care home. Visitation to the facility is restricted and outbreak protocols have been implemented.

Three cases that were identified at the Assiniboine Centre at Brandon Regional Health Centre belong to two health-care workers and one resident. Public health says the resident contracted the virus inside the facility.

Effective September 3, 2020, Manitoba Public Health will be restricting travel to northern Manitoba and remote communities.

On Tuesday, September 1 all visitors to health-care facilities are required to wear a non-medical mask. This includes outpatients going to appointments at clinics in hospitals and health centres.

A potential exposure has been identified the Frederickson Performance Centre, Unit F-1212 18th St. in Brandon on Aug. 17 from 7 to 8:30 a.m. and Aug. 23 from 9 to 10:30 a.m.
