25-year-old man arrested for assaulting police officer

Winnipeg police have arrested and charged a 25-year-old Garden Hill First Nation man is facing charges after he allegedly tried to punch a police officer sitting in a police cruiser outside police headquarters around 1:45 a.m. on Monday, January 22, 2024.

Police say the suspect then went to a building in the next block of Graham Avenue where he was seen throwing a metal garbage can through the front window shattering the glass. The suspect then entered the building and tried to use the elevator to reach a higher floor but security intervened and stopped the suspect from entering another floor. When the man returned to the main floor he armed himself with a piece of broken glass and approached officers on the scene.

Police used a taser and were able to safely bring the suspect into custody.

The suspect has been charged for his alleged involvement with:

– Assault a Peace Officer

– Break & Enter with Intent – Place

He was released on an appearance notice.
