25-year-old carjacking suspect in custody

Winnipeg Police have arrested and charged a 25-year-old male in connection to the April 20, 2020, carjacking outside Health Sciences Centre.

As News 4 told you on Tuesday a 59-year-old man was unloading items from his vehicle when a male suspect confronted him and stole the vehicle. The man’s 88-year-old father was sitting in the passenger seat when the vehicle was stolen.

The 88-year-old man was able to escape by jumping out of the vehicle when it stopped at a traffic light on Notre Dame Avenue.

In an effort to flee the suspect rammed two police vehicles before getting away.

On Thursday, April 23, 2020, investigators arrested the suspect.

Brandon Lee George Hunter is facing a number of charges for his alleged involvement including Kidnapping, Robbery, Assault Peace Officer with a Weapon (x4), Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance, Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer and Drive Without Licence.

Hunter was detained in custody.
