244 new cases of COVID-19 and 12 deaths reported

Manitoba Public Health announced that as of 9:30 am today there are 244 new cases of COVID-19 in the province and an additional 12 deaths including:

  •  a female in her 30s from the Southern Health-Santé Sud region;
  • a female in her 80s from the Southern Health-Santé Sud region;
  • a male in his 80s from the Northern health region;
  • a female in her 50s from the Winnipeg health region;
  • a female in her 60s from the Winnipeg health region;
  • a male in his 60s from the Winnipeg health region;  
  • a male in his 60s from the Winnipeg health region;
  • a female in her 80s from the Winnipeg health region;  
  • a female in her 80s from the Winnipeg health region;  
  • a male in his 80s from the Winnipeg health region;  
  • a female in her 90s from the Winnipeg health region; and  
  • a female in her 90s from the Winnipeg health region.

The current provincial five-day test positivity rate is 10.6 per cent. The test positivity rate in Winnipeg is 10.6 per cent. The total number of lab-confirmed cases in Manitoba is 23,624.

The data shows that of today’s cases, 44 are from the Interlake-Eastern health region, 41 from Northern health region, three from the Prairie Mountain Health region, 42 from Southern Health region and 114 from the Winnipeg health region.

There are currently 346 people being treated in hospital for the virus of which 254 are active cases and 92 people are no longer infectious. There are 41 people being treated in intensive care.

As of today 617 Manitobans have died from COVID-19.

There are currently 4,489 active cases. 18,518 people are listed as recovered.

There were 2,163 tests processed yesterday bringing the total number of tests since February to 411,618.

Outbreaks have been declared at the E5 medicine unit at St. Boniface Hospital, Calvary Place personal care home and Deer Lodge Centre, all in Winnipeg. 

Manitoba Public Health is advising that people only leave their homes for essential purposes, avoid crowded spaces, physically distance and wear a mask in indoor public places.

NOTE: Manitoba Public Health will not be releasing any COVID-19 data on Christmas Day (Dec 25) or Boxing Day (Dec 26).
