Police investigating 23rd homicide of 2019

Winnipeg Police are investigating the 23rd homicide this year after a man was shot and killed early Monday morning, June 17, 2019.

Police say they were called to the 500 block of Agnes Street after receiving a report that a man had been shot.

When officers arrived they found a male suffering from a gunshot wound and immediately began first aid. The victim was taken to hospital in critical condition by died shortly afterwards.

Police officers were gathering evidence at the scene throughout the day. The shooting happened near John M. King Elementary School. Access to the school was controlled during the day while officers were investigating in the area.

Police say they have identified the victim but are hold back his name and age until next of kin have been notified.

Although the case is in the early stages of the investigation police say they believe the shooting was not random.
