Male facing arson charges after home burns to the ground

Late Friday night, January 24, 2020, emergency crews responded to a house fire on Peguis First Nation.

As police were responding to the call they were told that a suspicious male was walking on Highway 224 lighting items on fire and throwing them on the road. The male was near the house fire according to the advisory.

When officers located the suspicious male he was being checked by firefighters from the Peguis Fire Department. RCMP continued to investigated which led to the male being arrested.

22-year-old Danton Flett from Peguis First Nation was charged for his alleged involvement with Arson-Disregard for Human Life and Arson- Damage to Property.

He was detained in custody.

Police say that four people inside the burning home were able to get out. Two were treated at the scene by paramedics and two others were treated in hospital and later released.

The home is a total loss.

RCMP and investigators from the Office of the Fire Commissioner continue to investigate.
