City Council approves 2018 budget, Transit fares and parking fees set to increase

Winnipeg City Council has voted 11-5 in favour of the proposed 2018 budget.

Last week the mayor’s inner circle at Executive Policy Committee passed the budget at their level after adding an additional $.50 per hour fee on top of the $1.00 per hour fee to street parking in the city to offset an expected deficit to the cost of running Winnipeg Transit. At the time the Mayor said the additional fee would allow cuts to transit to be taken off the table.

An increase in transit fares is also in the budget. Effective in the new year those riding the bus will have to shell out an additional $.25 each time they take public transit.

Property taxes in the city will also increase 2.33% with this budget approval

The budget outlines the $1.08 billion the city will spend on services next year.
