2000 Jobs Added in Manitoba in January

Finance Minister Adrien Sala announced today that data from Statistics Canada indicates economic growth in Manitoba, with the province adding 2,000 jobs in January. This growth is further reflected in the continued rise in average weekly earnings for Manitobans.

“Our government is working across industries to grow the economy, increase productivity, and attract more investments to our province,” said Sala. “These past few weeks have made it clear that we need to diversify our economy and trading partners. We’re making life more affordable, creating jobs, and Manitobans are getting bigger paycheques.”

According to the latest data, Manitoba’s unemployment rate has dropped by 0.1 percentage points from December 2024 to January 2025, which places it 0.5 percentage points below the national average. The private sector has also seen a significant increase in employment, with 3,200 new jobs added, representing a 0.6 per cent growth—outpacing the national average growth of 0.5 per cent.

Average weekly earnings in Manitoba have surged by 4.8 per cent on a year-over-year basis, surpassing the national average increase of 3.5 per cent. These figures underscore the province’s ongoing economic resilience and its successful efforts to enhance the financial well-being of its residents.
