Manitoba announced on Friday, November 12, 2021, that new restrictions come into force at 12:01 am Saturday, November 13, surrounding religious gatherings within the Southern Health region.
Under the new restrictions religious gatherings that include unvaccinated people are limited to 25 per cent capacity or a maximum 250 but they must be divided into cohorts of no more than 25 people. Under the new rules, cohorts must not mingle and masks must be worn at all times. Physical distancing rules will also apply.
Faith based services that only allow fully vaccinated people have no capacity restrictions.
Areas in the Southern Health region close to Winnipeg will not be subject to the new restrictions. Those areas are Cartier, Headingley, Macdonald, Ritchot (Niverville-Ritchot), St. François Xavier and Taché.
The province also announced more restrictions are coming related to indoor recreational sports province-wide. Beginning December 5, 2021, everyone 12 to 17 will be required to provide proof of at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine or a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours prior to taking part.
Negative tests need to come from a participating pharmacy. Provincial testing sites are only to be accessed by symptomatic individuals or when required by public health. The cost of a COVID-19 test at a pharmacy varies but can be found for about $40.00
“Current COVID-19 case numbers, test positivity rate, community spread, vaccination rates and modelling are all factors. We are seeing concerning numbers now and the projections indicate more is coming if we do not take steps to curb the situation,” said Dr. Brent Roussin, chief provincial public health officer.
